3.18.2010

Welcome back Willie.

I spent February 12-23 in America, and had time to think about a lot.

As far as my future is concerned, I believe I have found at least an immediate "quick fix" solution: I will probably teach ESL for a few years, then consider going back to get my Master's Degree in Elementary education, or simply ESL.

When January rolled around, I was so ready to get out of Korea, yet, getting home was not the honeymoon I expected. Life had not changed, people had not changed, and friends were... depressing. I saw the people I really wanted to, and even founded a new friendship that burned rather quickly. This is all a part of life, right? Who knows...

I am supporting my decision to return to Korea for a second year, but who knows what I will do for the third year. I would really like to move to Busan, to get myself situated near the beach, which I have missed intensely.

School starts in 17 minutes.

Let's play.

2010. 02. 09

Today's lesson in Hangul:
Bu-dong-san:
n; a real estate agency.

Apartment hunting in America? Not much fun.
Apartment hunting in Korea? I'm ready to kill someone.

I ran out of time, not from fault of my own, but from the school's inflexibility.
They cannot put another deposit down until March 11th, as that is when my lease ends.
Okay, understood.
I made amends with having to drop 500,000 won (around $440) to hold a place til March 11.
Cool.
So I thought.
Now, we're in the "the owner doesn't want to contract with a school."
Okay.

So, now what?
Well, we get ahold of another Bu-dong-san for a separate apartment in the same building.
They're trying to finagle shit with my school now; so here I sit, twiddling my thumbs.

I'm wondering if I can keep up with this more in 2010 than I did last year.
Well, that's certainly a thing to ponder.

Greetings from Guri-si Sutaek-dong!

3 months.
I have been here for three months, which truthfully has felt like an eternity and a fleeting dream.
I was a bit timid at first to get acclimated to the country, then I decided to just say screw it, and get on with my life.
I'm going to omit a few things for this first post, as there are some things that shouldn't be shared yet.
I've got most of my pictures up on myspace,
all of them up on facebook.

Im lacking on photos of ME though,
it's mostly scenery, which is definitely alright.

I live by a delightful open market,
which carries all of my cooking, eating, bedding, and basically clothing needs.
(If I could fit into a pair of pants I would be SO excited.)

I think I need a haircut soon.

And, one final thought for my first post from Korea,
Llua didnt stick as my cat's name.
Shitty Kitty seems to be getting closer to absolution.
Maybe latrine?

haha.

Robin Hood Men in Tights how I miss you.

02.20.09

Started watching Capote this evening, I look forward to finishing it soon. Preferrably in the AM, but we'll see.

Oh! So today consisted of two meals involving absolute happiness.
Lunch was a delightful Pad Thai in North Conway, and dinner,
oh my dinner... Copious amounts of Sushi, and this roll literally the size of my fist.
OBVIOUSLY by roll I mean slice of pure heaven.

I'm in the mood to ramble on for a while, so I might as well oblige my urges and continue to write of snow shoveling, waking at 5am for consecutive days, good music, great food, great people, and pure happiness. Spending time in the White's was delightful, and I think I made a positive impression. (Think being the operative word here.)

I hope to see my sister soon,
as it will be quite some time before I run into her again.
ALTHOUGH, we tend to go 6+ months at a time with no contact.
I've always wondered what it would be like to have a close-knit family.
I have my mom, and Megan, but my mom is the only one I really see that often.
Of course there is my father too, but this is not the place for discussing that.

OH! I've been dreaming again, vividly.

9.01 pm
time for sleep I suppose.

Hello there.

Annnd, I'm waiting for my VISA issuance number,
then I depart for South Korea in early March methinks.

At least I'm happy.

Oh the laziness!

I realize I write very minimally when I actually post in here,
but it's more important that I actually do it so I can keep in touch with myself.

I have gotten my state and local background checks done for Korea,
gotten my letters of recommendation,
passport, initial contract,
annnnd, I've got a date with the State House in Augusta and UMaine Orono for yet another set of transcripts.

I'm very excited for this upcoming March so I may start fresh.
A year away from my life will be exciting,
and a chance to escape the things I need to ignore will be healthy.
I've been wearing myself down lately,
and need to snap out of it.

I'm a bright young lad with a knack for putting myself too far down on my priority list.

On a side thought,
grad school applications are a pain in the ass when nobody knows what is going on in the department.
But hey!
Let's laugh a little.

(Oh, I put a few pounds on since last week. Frustrating)

4-8" of snow has turned into one foot and still falling.

(Side thought) It's time to do what is right.
