Milestone 3.31.08

“William’s project provided the children in my day-care a wonderful chance to help do their part in the lowering of plastic bag consumption. While it may seem odd to some for 5 years old and younger to learn about how plastics are bad for the environment, this group ate it up. Not only did William provide a hands-on activity for everyone to enjoy, but he taught them an important lesson as well. I look forward to hearing from William on how his project is moving along.”

"William presented the group with a craft project of decorating reusable canvas bags.  He explained how the bags diminish our environmental footprint by reducing our use of plastic bags. The 6 teenage participants had a great time, 2 of them even went back to create a second bag!  Will did an excellent job in getting his point across, as this particular group is very interested in DIY crafts and will absolutely be using their bags time and time again.  He stressed talking to their parents about the importance of bringing the bags when they go shopping to use in place of the stores' bags, as well as the possibilities for everyday use during school and play.  The kids definitely picked up on his message, in fact one girl was traveling to Ireland the following morning and was upset her bag hadn't dried as she wanted to use it as her carry on!”

Personally, I am very impressed with William’s drive on this project. When he first requested to use the Harry Potter overnight as his first project stop, I wasn’t sure how it would go over with the participants. After witnessing how involved everyone was, I must say I was impressed. William did an excellent job educating and having fun in the process.”
